Alex's Bio at the Time of Adoption:

Alex is a 3-month-old puppy who was described as a hound mix by the folks who initially rescued him. While he undoubtedly has some hound in him, he appears to have any number of other breeds in his background as well. Ames' Bio at the Time of Adoption:

Ames is a 3-month-old puppy who was described as a hound mix by the folks who initially rescued him. While he undoubtedly has some hound in him, he appears to be a mix of any number of other breeds as well. At first glance, Ames appears to be pure white, but on second look, you can see tiny spots of caramel like those that are so much more prominent on his brothers. His black nose is very cute on his white face too. Though playful and friendly, Ames is the least likely of the pups to ask to be held, and he’s less inclined to “talk” than Alex and Abbott. Ames will be up-to-date on his shots when adopted. He is living in a foster home and beginning to learn housebreaking. ADOPTED 4/2/11

Andy

Andy is a 1.5 year old neutered Terrier/Pug mix who weighs only 18 pounds. He came to PAWS because his owner was severely allergic to him. Since he is still young, he has a lot of energy and jumps up on people. Because of this, he would be best with older children. Andy is good with other dogs; however, it is unknown whether he is good with cats or not. He is house broken and was crated, but he still needs work on the basics of crate training. Andy can get car sick. This sweet boy has been patiently waiting for his forever home and is hoping that he finds it soon! Andy is living in a foster home. ADOPTED 11/13/11

Bella Baby loves being with people and loves to play and eat! She really dislikes living in a kennel at PAWS even though everyone is nice to her and gives her Kongs and treats. Please come meet our Bella Baby! If you're thinking you should write me off because of my breed, please take a moment to check out this link. You may be surprised what you find out! http://www.hellobully.com/edu.html Click on her picture to see another pose. A generous person donated free training classes for anyone who adopts Bella Baby. Cherry

Cherry

Cherry's Bio at the Time of Adoption:

Cherry is a 9-year-old spayed beagle who weighs 25 pounds. She came to PAWS with her brother, Tobie, and they are very bonded to each other and have been through a very rough year. Their owner had them in a boarding kennel for months trying to figure out a way to keep them and finally couldn't. They have been without a home for too long and desperately want to find a family to take them both. Despite her age, Cherry is a very active dog that loves to spend time outside sniffing around for rabbits. When she picks up a scent, she lets out a sound like a bugle and is off and running. For this reason, she must always be in a fenced-in yard or on leash. She does have arthritis that requires daily medicine. Once she takes her meds, her arthritis doesn’t slow her down a bit. In fact, exercise is very good for her because it keeps her weight down and builds up her muscles, so she will need a new home that can keep her fit and active. After she finishes hunting she likes to come inside and cuddle up to someone on the couch or to chew a bone on her dog bed. She is very well-behaved in the house and can be left alone without any problems. She is house trained and will let you know when she needs to go outside. Like her brother, Cherry loves children, others dogs, and cats. Cherry really enjoys going on walks and for car rides. At her foster home, she sleeps in her crate throughout the night. Cherry is very friendly and affectionate and will make a great family pet.

A generous donor has donated free dog training for Chief and his new owner to work on this issue. Click on his picture to see another pose.ADOPTED 4/19/11

Cooper - Adopted's Bio at the Time of Adoption:

Hi! My name is Cooper and I'm an adorable poodle/terrier mix! I'm an older little guy - I only weigh about 20 lbs. I have lots of energy, but not too much. I would love to go on walks with my new people. I am very loyal and affectionate, and would love to sit on your lap! I want to be with my person when they are home. Sometimes I sleep in bed with my person, and sometimes I sleep on a dog bed next to my person's bed. I've been bounced around a lot and am a little insecure. So you have to be patient with me. I am housetrained and extremely bright! I am already neutered. I am living in a kennel and need an adult-only home. Also, I need a home without any other dogs. I am fine with cats, although I may chase them at first, but then I stop. You can meet me at the Sunday dog showings or by appointment. Please think about making me part of you home!

Courtney's owner didn't have enough time for her. She is house trained and crate trained using a wire crate. Courtney has had a rough start to life but it the cutest little girl and needs someone patient enough to give her a new start and build up her confidence. A quieter house would be a great place for this sweetie! She was adopted out but growled at the husband and acted protective of the wife. Darby is a tiny 5 pound Chihuhua. He just went into a foster home and here is what his foster mom reports: Darby is doing great. He gets along very well with my dog and learned quickly to leave the cat alone (maybe because he weighs 5 pounds and she weighs 14!). He is perfectly content to sleep on the couch all day long however he also loves long walks and has endless amounts of energy. Basically he is content doing whatever I am doing. He has been with children as young as 6 and did great with them. Darby is doing great with house training and has gone 5 days with no accidents. Dax is good with other children and most likely lived outdoors so will need to learn about house training. The poor guy tested positive for heartworm so he will get the medical attention he needs at PAWS to fight this disease and will not be available for adoption until after his treatment. Dax's treatment and recovery time will span about 2 months, though he may face irreversible heart or lung damage at the end of it. It's sad that Dax has to suffer with a disease that was 100% preventable through the use of a monthly preventative medication. Donations toward his treatment and care during recovery are appreciated. Dax got a foster home so he will be there to go through his treatments in a quiet environment. ADOPTED 8/3/11 (Will complete his HW treatment!)

At about 20 pounds, he has the high-stepping prance of a min pin and is fun-loving and sweet, housebroken and a cuddler. Rosco has been bounced around a bit trying to find his forever home, and he is consequently showing signs of separation anxiety. A steady routine and lots of exercise will help him over this tendency. He was surrendered from his last home for nipping at the toddler, so he'll do best in a home with no small children. Mags is a 2 year old spayed tri-color beagle/bassett hound mix who weighs 22 pounds. She is underweight though and stressed at the kennel. She is a little scared of some people at first, but warms up really quickly and especially loves other dogs! She gets along very well with everyone. Her people friends say that she is very smart- recently learned how to "sit" and "shake," and is working on "wait" when the door opens. She can even tell you when I have to go potty, but is not always perfect about that. She doesn't have much leash training (so she wears a harness), but she rides well in the car and is very curious about smelling everything. She has big bursts of energy sometimes, followed by long periods of snoozing around. It would be great to live in a home where I have a yard to run around, sniff, and play. Stubby...FOUND AND BACK HOME

Stubby...FOUND AND BACK HOME's Bio at the Time of Adoption:

STUBBY IS HOME!! {the following is from the Stubby blog} "Thanks to a borrowed yard and a wonderful friend. Those of you on Halfmoon Hill might have heard him howling and barking at me between 10-11... for whatever reason he had taken to "talking" to me and Cam. I actually have him recorded on my phone because I thought it was hilarious. I teach at Manners and More and tonight after class despite the rain I figured I'd try again. Stubby followed me home just like last night but was scared off by one of my neighbors so I figured I'd try a different approach. I work with a woman who lives on Collins Ave and she had given me permission to use her fenced in yard. I walked in... unhooked Cam (who took off running) and Mr. Stubby followed me right in! I seriously almost fainted! My wonderful friend (and fellow Manners N More trainer) was actually the one who finally got the slip lead on him. It was about a two hour ordeal tonight... but well worth it!"

Tito

Tito

Tito's Bio at the Time of Adoption:

Tito is a 3 year old neutered 65 pound husky who was rescued from a bad situation. He loves people and other dogs and is also great with children. At PAWS, he loves the meet and greet rooms and will take naps on the sofa next to the volunteers. Tito is house trained and does fine in a crate while his foster is at work. Tito also loves other dogs and needs to go to a home with another dog. Huskies are very intelligent and learn quickly. Tito is just the sweetest boy! He is gentle and loving but still enjoys his play time with his buddies and going for walks. Huskies have a tendancy to chase and run off. Tito was adopted and got out and it took a week until he came back after a huge search effort. A new owner will have to do some obedience training with Tito but he it totally worth the effort. He is living in a foster home. ADOPTED 1/29/11

Tobie

Tobie

Tobie's Bio at the Time of Adoption:

Tobie is a 9 year old neutered beagle who weighs 27 pounds. He came to PAWS with his sister, Cherry, and they are very bonded to each other and have been through a very rough year. Their owner had them in a boarding kennel for months trying to figure out a way to keep them and finally couldn't. They have been without a home for too long and desperately want to find a family to take them both. Tobie is very people-focused and will follow you from room to room. He loves to sit in your lap or just get as close to you as possible. Although his sister loves to hunt outside, Tobie prefers to be with a person. If you are outside, he’ll go out with you, but the minute you go in he wants in as well. Tobie thinks he is a guard dog, so if he hears a door bell (either a real one or one on tv) or sees anything outside he will bark to let you know. Once he has done his job of telling you someone was outside, he will warmly greet them and insist on being petted. Tobie requires daily medication to control his seizures and to aid his digestion. Because of his digestive issues, he also needs a special food (a high protein grain-free diet) and can only have approved treats in moderation. He is fine once he takes his medicine and will give you lots of love, kisses, and attention. Tobie is well-behaved in the house and can be left alone without any problems. He is house trained and will let you know when he needs to go outside. Like his sister, Tobie loves children, others dogs, and cats. He really enjoys going for car rides so he can stick his head out the window and feel the wind in his ears. At his foster home, he sleeps in his crate throughout the night. Tobie is very friendly and affectionate and will make a great family pet.
