Abigail's Explorers-Jacques, Samuel, Amelia's Bio at the Time of Adoption:

Domestic short/medium hair

DOB: 05/06/09

"We are tired of exploring at PAWS! Please give us a home to start a new adventure. We've grown quite a bit since our photos were taken, but we are still precious and playful."

New photos and update coming soon!

Six darling and adventurous gray and white kittens:

Sally-OOPS!--Sally was named as a tiny kitten. As it turns out, "she" is a "he" and now has a new PAWS name - "Buzz" for astronaut Buzz Aldrin

Buzz - neutered

Christopher - neutered

Edmund - neutered

Amelia - Adopted

Samuel & Jacques - Adopted

Click here to watch the little explorers in action in PAWS new Public Service Announcement.

From their foster:

"Because their gray and white markings resemble map outlines, they have been named for famous explorers of lands, seas, skies and space. See if you can figure out who their namesakes are. Although at first glance they are difficult to tell apart, if you look carefully, you will notice distinct differences in the patterns of their faces and ears. They are all friendly and playful"

When you visit these little explorers at the center, there should be printed information to help you identify them.

Abigail

Abigail

Abigail's Bio at the Time of Adoption:

Female-spayed, Domestic Longhair

~DOB: 04/28/08

One of this year's momcats!

Having been rescued, Abigail arrived at PAWS as a sorry and sad sight with matted fur, a deep bruise to her abdomen and expecting kittens almost imminently. This dear cat was still willing to show the humans at PAWS love and acceptance though. Shortly after her arrival she had 6 kittens while staying in a PAWS foster home. They are listed separately on this page as "Abigail's Explorers".

Here's what foster mom says about Abigail:

"Abigail loves attention. Initially she easily became over-excited and would grab and nip, but she is intelligent and a fast learner and her self-control is improving. She also learned quickly how to use a scratching post instead of the furniture. She enjoys having her beautiful coat brushed, but her favorite thing of all is just to sit beside you and purr."

Abigail will want an adopter who will brush her coat regularly to keep it free of mats.

Ace

Ace

Ace's Bio at the Time of Adoption:

Male-neutered, Domestic Shorthair

DOB: 01/12/07

Summer 2009 from Ace's foster:

I wanted to let you know that Ace is doing fine.  This is the 3rd week we have had him and he settled in easily among the 5 other cats.  There are times when he and Zedd have quick discussions/hissing, but they are very few and far between and no fighting/claws involved.  It is usually when they both want the SAME spot in the whole house!  He loves to be petted, brushed, cat nip and chasing the red laser light on the carpet.  He also wants to go outside (which wouldn't be the best thing for him).  I hope we don't have a problem with him chewing screens.  Right now, he's up on the computer desk with me wanting attention.....walking between me and the keyboard!!!  I'd love to keep him and Karen (another PAWS cat)  myself but DH says 4 cats of our own is plenty!!!

Spring 2009 foster's update on handsome Ace:

"Ace has learned to LOVE attention from his person/people.  He always runs to the door as soon as he hears that someone is home.  He has even turned into a lap cat!  His favorite things remain having his face/head scratched, eating breakfast, and watching wildlife through a window.  Now he also loves napping in someone's lap or curling up to you while you sleep at night.  He is very clean; managing to keep his food in his dish and his litter in his box.  We've loved having Ace in our home.  He was quite the gentleman and a loving companion."

Can you spot Argentina in PAWS new Public Service Announcement? Please click here.

February 19, 2009

Via foster mom:

"Don't let my age fool you, I can be playful as a kitten! I am enjoying being petted, but I prefer not to be picked up. My foster mom has this cat and he is twice my size and I have decided to tolerate him. I don't mind children but have not been around any men. Please give me a forever home. I would love to curl up with you on the couch and watch television. " -- Argentina

May 2009 update from Argentina's foster:

"Argentina has been with me for 12 weeks and is adapting to her foster home very nicely. She still doesn't "like" her foster brother but she will tolerate him if she must. He tries to get her to come around and every once in a while she is affectionate for a moment. She is not shy when people come to visit and enjoys anyone's attention. She is content lying around on her bed all day and really likes to look out the screen door when I get home in the evening. She doesn't care to be picked up but we are working on it. "

Arugula

Arugula's Bio at the Time of Adoption:

Male, Domestic Shorthair

DOB: 02/23/09

Foster mom's report on this cute little tabby:

"Arugula is a gorgeous orange kitten who is always bursting full of energy! He loves playing and enjoys wrestling with his brother, Turnip. Anything that makes noise is his playground; it is extremely funny watching him pounce on his toys and chase them across the room. He is also very sweet, and will jump up on your lap and ask for you to pet him. When he is not chasing balls around the house, he enjoys watching the birds from the window. Arugula is fearless, and is the first to check out any new situation."

ADOPTED 5/2/09

Asimov

Asimov

Asimov's Bio at the Time of Adoption:

Male-neutered, Domestic Shorthair

DOB: 03/13/08

Asimov was originally posted with his siblings as the Sci-Fi Writer Kittens. All have grown into fine older kittens now and amazingly, two of the guys, Asimov and Heinlein, still need to be adopted. Just look at handsome Asimov. He's looking out saying "Look at me! I'm so adoptable and handsome!" And he is! He also VERY much misses brother Clarke.

Update from foster mom – July 2009:

Asimov seems to get along well with pretty much any cat, but he is easily dominated by a stronger cat so he'd be best in a household with another "non-dominating" one. I think he'd be lonely without another cat around though. He'll avoid dogs, especially big ones, but a small, friendly dog might be okay.

Asimov is still a little shy, but once he warms up to his surroundings, he'll walk around "singing" and will look for you to have some company. He’s okay with being held for short periods of time, but will let you know when he's done. Asimov doesn't like loud noises and may hide for awhile if something scares him. He loves treats!

Asimov does very well at our house but is timid and not very social at PAWS. He is not aggressive, but he tends to curl up in his bed and doesn’t show well to prospective adopters. He knows the routine – if he just keeps quiet and sleeps away the weekend, soon it’ll be time to go “home”!

Some cat foods give Asimov tummy troubles; Purina "healthy weight formula" or science diet I/D seem to work fine (something bland).

Aven

Aven

Aven's Bio at the Time of Adoption:

Female-spayed, Domestic Shorthair

D.O.B. 2/7/08

Meet lithe and lovely Aven!

Foster mom has these nice things to say about her:

"Aven is very graceful and delicate with enormous deep-amber eyes and a purr that goes on and on. She has the kind of personality that makes you wonder how cats got the reputation of being aloof. She is curious, outgoing, and friendly, and loves to be involved in whatever anyone is doing. Aven is not aggressive or particularly assertive. She politely takes a "wait and see" attitude toward other pets (cats and dogs). As long as they give her a little space and time to adjust, she does fine. If you want the kind of cat who comes running to greet you with shining eyes and a big purr, Aven is the cat for you!"

Bacardi

Bacardi

Bacardi's Bio at the Time of Adoption:

Female, Domestic Shorthair

DOB: 08/24/08

Bacardi was originally listed as a tiny little member of "The Cocktail Kittens" named for cocktail beverages. She's now come into her own as a cute and playful young girl.

Report from Bacardi's foster:

"Puss-N-Boots--If you've ever seen Shrek, when you look at those big round eyes you will know exactly what I'm talking about. Her eyes are so big and round on that little face. Bacardi is the smallest of the bunch and this little girl is the most laid back kitten I have been around--and I have been around a lot of kittens and cats. She's the first one up in the morning with you and the first one curled up beside you in bed. She is always there waiting for a lap to lie on and open hands to push against. She, like her brother, would make someone very happy or be a wonderful playmate. Bacardi has no issues with the litter box or other cats. Great with kids and would be ok with dogs."

Bailey

Bailey

Bailey's Bio at the Time of Adoption:

Male-neutered, Domestic Longhair

DOB: 07/29/02

A.K.A. ”Prince Bailey the Magnificent"…YES! Two volunteers from the Dog Program gave me this moniker and have they got it RIGHT! I love them. :)

I came to PAWS with quite a rap sheet, but I set out to rewrite history and I’ve been pretty doggone (or is that “catgone”) successful. So close the history book and forget what you’ve read about me before. (If you really need to know, the PAWS volunteers will tell you about my past).

Fast-forward to the present -- Everyone loves me, and oh do I love being admired and doted upon. I still slurp volunteers who put their faces into mine, and when they brush my “to-kill-for” coat, I roll over for my mandatory belly rub. I love to jump in the air and catch toys on a stick and I do need the exercise…it’s hard not to pack on a few extra pounds living in a shelter. In sum, I’m a good, BIG, handsome guy who doesn’t even mind being toted around….don’t try this if you have a bad back. :) But soon, I’d like to find a nice, quiet, adult home. I do need to be the center of attention….not that I have an ego or anything….I’d just rather not have to compete for mom and/or dad’s time. I’m king of my castle here at PAWS, but I’m anxious to win the heart of someone who can provide me with all the things royalty deserves….starting with a bigger castle!

Love – The Magnificent Prince Bailey

At last she came! I knew it the minute she walked in the door. SHE was worthy of a prince and it was love at first sight...for both of us. Don't get me wrong -- I love all those PAWS people who fawned over me. But there's nothing like being HOME for Holidays!

Male-neutered, front-declawed, Domestic Shorthair

DOB: 04/01/01

From Baxter via foster mom – June 30, 2009

Are you looking for a lap cat? Look no more!

I’m Baxter and I love nothing more than to curl up on a lap. My mission is to seek out my person to receive attention, all the while I nuzzle and purrrrr. Please don’t be concerned about my age. I may be what they call a "senior" cat; however, you’re never too old to be loved or to give love. I get along ok with my foster mom's dog, but I'd prefer to be the only feline in the family. What do you need another cat for anyway...when you've got ME??? Mom says I'm one terrific kitty! -- Love, Baxter

Belle

Belle

Belle's Bio at the Time of Adoption:

Female-spayed, Domestic Shorthair

DOB: 04/01/01

Front declawed

The beautiful Belle with the gorgeous eyes!

From foster mom, July 15, 2009:

Belle is a quiet but affectionate kitty who loves belly rubs, head rubs, cuddling, brushing and lots of attention. She has beautiful markings, little tufts of fur at the tips of her ears, soft fur and striking green eyes. She isn't much of a talker but has a cute chirp for a meow. Belle would probably do best in a home with no other pets, but she does well with kids and is quite tolerant.

Being at the PAWS Center is not the ideal place for Belle to show her wonderful personality. In her foster home, she does really well, which tells us that she is just ready to be in a home with her forever family.

Bess

Bess

Bess' Bio at the Time of Adoption:

Female-spayed, Domestic Shorthair

DOB: ~04/01/08

Hi - My name is "Bess".   I'm SO ready to find a home of my own.....or even better, someone who will adopt me and my one remaining "kid", a pretty dark tortie named "Pepper".   I was little more than a kitten myself when I became a mom, so now that Pepper is a little older, I'm enjoying a second kittenhood with her....we're more like sisters than mom and kid.   I love my foster mom's cat too.

I'm a very mild-mannered, gentle girl and do defer to Pepper when it comes to play.   I think it's only right that I allow her to have fun, so I usually just sit and watch.   If my new family would get two toys on a stick, though, then I could join in!   I enjoy quiet attention, have a nice purr and don't mind being picked up and held.  The more attention I get, the more I'm sure to blossom into a very affectionate companion.

Pepper and I are both spayed now and up-to-date on our vaccinations, so we're all set to go.   If you DO adopt both of us (please, please think about that), you'll get a reduced adoption fee during the month of October!   :)

Love -- Bess

Bethany's Bio at the Time of Adoption:

Female-spayed, Domestic Shorthair

DOB: 04/01/01

Front declawed

Bethany is a shy but gentle cat when at the center for adoption hours. Bethany and Baxter are siblings. Bethany is the shyer of the two.

Bethany would do best in a quiet household, with someone who understands what it’s like to be timid. Once Bethany gets comfortable with her person, she does come out of her shell. She loves to ‘surf’. When you approach her, she’ll plop down on the carpet, begin to purr and spin herself around with her back claws.

Bethany would so much like to have someone ‘find her’, so she can share her love and gentleness.

Bingo

Bingo's Bio at the Time of Adoption:

Male-neutered, Domestic Shorthair

DOB: 04/01/98, front -declawed

"Please leave the water on for me! As you can see, that cat making the rounds on tv and the internet enjoying water from the kitchen faucet hasn't got a thing on me!"

No need to flood your home or run up your water bill, but for fun for adopter and Bingo himself, please let the faucet running just a bit occasionally to watch this fellow enjoy drinking from the faucet. He's a character and has been hanging around entertaining the volunteers with his antics for far too long.

Summer 2009 update:

Bingo is currently living in his own room at PAWS. He sure would like to find a real home to call his own. He's a bit of a grumbler sometimes, but also a cat who touches your heart once you get to know him. He's really quite lovable and the volunteers get a big kick out of him.

Spring 2009 Update:

Bingo is becoming quite social. The volunteers have even been using the word "sweet" for him on occasion. His most recent foster mom also reports that he's starting to be a lap cat!

"YABBA DABBA DOOOO! I'm goin' HOME! Will have my very own faucet and my very own person AT LAST! Maybe being the PAWS holiday poster cat wasn't such a bad idea after all -- I told 'em "been there, done that" (last year and to no avail), but they insisted, my new dad was impressed, and....I'm goin' HOME!" -- Bingo

"Blackie is a very verbal kitty. He ‘talks’ when he is hungry, or just needs a hug. His meow is very unique. At times he almost sounds like a baby lamb!

Blackie is a ‘busy’ kitty, and doesn’t like to be held too long. He does like to be petted, will stay on your lap for a time, and purr all the while. He is very playful, and gets along well with other cats.

Blackie resides with foster children ages 9 – 13, and is happy with them. He doesn’t care much for dry food, but would prefer it be mixed with moist food.

Buddy's Bio at the Time of Adoption:

Male, Domestic Shorthair

DOB: 07/06/09

"I'm even more lovable than Buddy the elf from the movie 'Elf'. And that is saying something because that movie Buddy is pretty darn lovable with all his spreading cheer and goodwill. Please come to meet me. Just ask for Buddy who wants to go home for the holidays!"

Here is Buddy's story as told by his rescuers:

"Buddy is one lucky kitten. We unknowingly dragged him into our garage one night in the large trash can that he was scrounging in. He was scared and wild and skinny. It took only 2 days before he was purring like crazy when we would pet him as he hid behind the toilet. In just 4 days, I was able to pick him up. Within 8 days, he was acting like he was a member of the family. His loving nature, curiosity and playfulness helped him to overcome his fear and shyness quickly.

Buddy was taken to the vet and luckily is very healthy. He had a large puncture wound in his neck which has healed completely. The vet thinks that he had been in the grasp of a predator and was lucky to escape. Buddy is so sweet and is one of the most playful kittens we have ever fostered. He will also curl up beside you when he is done playing and fall asleep. He likes to lick faces and hands too. Buddy would be even luckier if he had a forever home!"

Caramel and Toffee's Bio at the Time of Adoption:

Female-spayed, Domestic Longhair

DOB: 06/01/05

Toffee is on the left and is slightly smaller than Caramel. Caramel has the fuller mane which makes her look very lion like.

These are two gentle gals. They are closely bonded to one another. If you adopt them, please be prepared to keep them mat free and looking their best with regular grooming.

A first report from their fosters:

" In one week's time we found these kitties to be fairly brave and loving. They are good with our big dog, our 3 year old and our other cat. They use their litter well and like a scratching pad. They seem fairly dependent on each other. After a few days they began to play with toys! They are great girls, but they do eat my plants! (caution needed) Caramel doesn't mind brushing. Working on Toffee!"

Update 4/5/09

" Success! BOTH cats now like to be brushed...which is so important to keeping their coats sleek and beautiful. Caramel and Toffee can be "affection biters", but their bites are nibbles only...no big deal. They are not yet lap cats, but they LOVE to be petted."

Caviar is a beautiful little tabby with gorgeous eyes. She is on her way to becoming a gourmet class cat who will surely live up to her gourmet name. A little shy and scared at first, Caviar is now an attention-seeking little love!

December 24, 2008

Caviar is spending the holidays with a new foster family. Upon arriving in her new home, she met fellow foster, Shila, and the two are "getting along splendidly," says foster mom.

"They like one another and are good company for each other. They like to play with toys and frequently romp around their room. They still need a little time to adjust to people and sometimes hide when we enter the room, but little by little they're becoming more adventurous."

Caviar has always gotten along well with other cats and is doing fine with foster mom's two cats during the supervised time that they're together.

"Both Caviar and Shila will make truly wonderful pets," says foster mom. "They both love people and attention and are fun to watch as they chase their toys."

Clarke's Bio at the Time of Adoption:

Male-neutered, Domestic Medium Hair

DOB: 03/13/08

Handsome Clarke is as much fun and as friendly as he is photogenic. He was originally posted with his cute littermates. All 3 boys, Asimov, Heinlein and Clarke are still available for adoption as incredible as that seems.

February 2009-- foster mom's report:

"Clarke is a smart, fun, beautiful, sweet guy who loves to run around and play. His favorite toys are socks, toy mice and any kind of string. He gets along well with the Shiba Inu at our house, as well as the other cats. He purrs quite a bit and will roll around and meow until you pet him, and he is not opposed to hopping up on the bed or couch to snuggle with you. He will let you hold him but is still getting used to it.

Clarke and Asimov may make a mess while in their cage at PAWS but that is because they love to play. At our house they are not messy at all, they are very playful kitties but they use their litter box appropriately. They would be best in a house with lots of room so they can run around and play, but may be better with older children since they are both still a little shy. Don't let their unusual names confuse you or put you off. They are both named appropriately after some very intelligent science fiction writers, like Arthur Clarke and Isaac Asimov, both kitties are curious and look at the world with their big eyes with endless imagination!!"

Cleopatra

Cleopatra's Bio at the Time of Adoption:

Female-spayed, Domestic Shorthair

This little momcat had 5 kittens named for characters in the movie "The Philadelphia Story". If you click for the larger photo you can see her as she was with her little newborns not all that long ago. Now her babies are up for adoption and are listed separately on this page.

Here's foster mom's report on Cleopatra:

"Cleopatra is a wonderful cat and a genuine lap cat. She loves cuddles and attention. Before her kittens were born, she would spend hours sitting in her foster mom's lap at the computer, helping her work by purring her encouragement. She really deserves her very own person to love and would prefer not to share with any other cats. Cleopatra has not been much exposed to children, but has never exhibited anything but kindness and gentleness toward people. She has a very soft coat and huge, gorgeous, expressive eyes waiting to fill with love and gratitude for her forever family."

Cookie

Cookie

Cookie's Bio at the Time of Adoption:

Female-spayed, Domestic Shorthair

~DOB: 06/15/06

Cookie has an extremely lush and beautiful black coat that includes a white spot on her neck. She's a very pretty girl who is still adjusting to adoption days.

Foster mom has this to report for now:

"Cookie enjoys people and enjoys having her beautiful fur petted. She is living with other cats, and she's still not sure if she likes their company. She gets a bit hissy if they get in her 'space'. Cookie might be better off as an only cat, but might do okay if she has room to distance herself from other cats. "

Update from Cookie's foster mom:
"Cookie has become very tolerant of other cats and will frequently allow the other fosters to curl up beside her. She's very low-keyed and a loving cat. Loves people and would be good with children. Will sit for awhile on your lap too. She has actually come a long way since I got her :-) "

Cotton

Cotton

Cotton's Bio at the Time of Adoption:

Female-spayed, Domestic Longhair

DOB: 04/01/01

Cotton came to PAWS with a very matted coat, much of which was shaved, but it is growing back in and she's returning to the beautiful cat both inside and outside that she is!

Here's what her fosters have to say about her (early November):

We have been fostering Cotton for about three weeks. When Cotton first came to our house she was very frightened and hid under the couch. She slowly came to trust us, especially my husband, and now sits on the couch and waits for affection!!

Cotton is a very loving and sweet cat. She greets us with the sweetest meow and purring but still is a little reluctant until you hold or brush her. Cotton tolerates our two resident cats and our German Shepherd dog. She eats well and is a very clean cat and has had no litter box problems.

She will need frequent brushing because of her long white hair. She will allow us to brush her but may bite, but not hard, when you brush her underneath and behind area. If we did not have two cats and a dog, Cotton would have a permanent home with us!

Doughnut

Doughnut

Doughnut's Bio at the Time of Adoption:

Female (spayed), Domestic Shorthair

D.O.B. 4/3/2001

Doughnut is a very sweet treat in both looks and disposition. She has a beautifully patterned coat, and be sure to check out her unique and gorgeous eyes! Having experienced quite a bit of change over the past year, Doughnut is feeling a bit unnerved by it all, so she might seem shy on first meeting. But it doesn’t take long for her to relax and warm to your attentions.

Shortly after coming to PAWS with her sister, Sweetcake, Doughnut was adopted into what she thought would be her forever home. But her adopters’ life circumstances changed and back she came to PAWS. Sister Sweetcake, with whom she’d spent her entire life prior to the recent adoption, was surprised to see her back and, frankly, wasn’t too happy about it. Sweetcake had enjoyed going it on her own and gained enough self-confidence to want things to stay that way. Now separated at the adoption center, each of them seems perfectly happy as a single.

New Year's update from Doughnut's holiday foster:

"Doughnut initially was not a friendly cat to the other cats and our dog. She hissed and snarled if any of the other house cats came near her. Over the past 4 weeks, though, she has mellowed and walks around the house fine. She's OK with the other cats, the big dog, and she likes to talk and asks for attention. She loves being brushed and petted but doesn't like to be picked up and held.....yet. She has come a long way these past 4 weeks."

It sounds like Doughnut just needs a patient adopter who will give her time to comfortably adjust to joining the family. How ‘bout filling the hole in Doughnut’s life by giving her a loving new home. And tell a friend with a sweet tooth to come out and meet Sweetcake!

Fun Unleashed

Fun Unleashed

Fun Unleashed's Bio at the Time of Adoption:

Male-neutered, Domestic Shorthair

DOB: 6/9/08

Named after a local children's "go have fun" store where he was found, Fun makes good on his name in a foster home with "brother" (not really) Miles. Also known as "Chase" by foster mom, Fun is a teeny-bopper now, as busy and silly as ever, and growing more handsome every day.

December 30, 2008

From foster mom:

What a pair these two boys would be in any home! Miles is a bit more laid back and more of a cat’s cat, but he will snuggle when he feels like settling in. Fun is just what his name says and lots of it. He is quite affectionate and loves people, but he really loves to play with his buddy Miles. Even though they are not siblings they are very, very close.

These two boys are non-stop, chasing each other around the house and playing with any little thing they can find on the floor. Fun's favorite toy is a piece of a "pig's ear" (dog chewy) that he carries around the house in his mouth. Just sit back and prepare to be entertained – talk about action!

They are great with all of the other cats in the house – I’m not sure how they would be with dogs…..even though Fun seems to think he IS one! They have great litter box habits and are very clean kitties. So double your pleasure – adopt them both!

HEY! Miles and me together forever! We SO wanted this to happen and it did!

Fuzzy Mittens and Maui

Fuzzy Mittens and Maui

Fuzzy Mittens and Maui's Bio at the Time of Adoption:

Domestic Shorthairs

Left to right, we have Fuzzy Mittens and Maui

Fuzzy Mittens, Female, DOB: 07/03/09

Maui, Male, DOB: 07/04/09

Two little lookalikes with natural white mittens on their paws. Twins? No, but they sure look like they are.

From Fuzzy M and Maui via foster mom:

FUZZY MITTENS:

Hi! My name is Fuzzy Mittens. You can all me Mittens or Mick. Heck, you can call me anything—just don’t call me late for dinner!

My foster mom says they should have named me Xena, Warrior Princess because I’m fearless. Well, I do sort of jump right in with both—er—all four feet. This one time, I burst from the guest room (where I sleep on the futon just like any other guest), shot right down the long, long staircase and cruised past my foster mom’s four adult cats. She says that she’s never seen them look so stunned.

I came to live here so I could keep JD, another PAWS kitten, company. Her brother JB got adopted and she was lonely. We were friends right from the start. Then Maui joined us—boy did we have a blast! But JD got adopted the very next day. So now it’s just me and Maui. We have great fun wrestling and chasing each other. I always try to grab his tail. He’s a good sport about it.

Foster mom says I should tell you that I like to sit on her lap and cuddle—unless Maui gets some good game started, of course. I’m getting straight A’s in litter box and scratch pad use. Pretty good, huh, Maui?

MAUI:

Yeah, that’s pretty good, Mittens. But you’re not the only one, you know. I’m getting straight A’s, too. Plus I'm the one that helps the most when our foster mom cleans out the litter boxes!

When I first got here, I was a bit skittish and hid under the futon—at least when there were any humans in the room. But I’d come out as soon as someone started some fun game. I ask you, what kitten in his right mind could resist a laser light?

JD and Mittens showed me how good it feels to get held and petted, so I like to get some of that quiet time too. But that Mittens sure can eat! So our foster mom is careful to bring us each our own plate and to keep Mittens away from mine 'til I’m done. She’s littler than me so I do let her get her own way sometimes. Mittens and I are a good pair. It’s sort of weird how much we look like one another. We look like we're related, but we’re not. I’m her BIG—ger foster brother!

Very patient with children, dogs, and other cats (even Lime, the other foster cat in my home, who thinks my beautiful tail is a play toy). DOB: 03/23/09

Irving was first listed with his littermates, "The Little Authors". Now he's a bigger boy and has his own listing, a Published Individual Author one might say.

Here's what foster mom says about this cute tabby:

"Irving loves to run around and play with his toys. He has a favorite mouse which he carries around in his mouth, growling at any of his siblings, whether they're interested in his mouse or not. Quite funny! Every time I'm with him, he brings it to me, as if to give me a gift. Irving is not much of a lap cat at this time, but he may be intimidated by his three siblings who often beat him to the lap. He does like to lie down next to me and lean against my body. I encourage this as much as possible, enclosing him gently with my arm and rubbing softly. he's feisty, but also gentle and sweet."

I just know that when you come out to PAWS to see me that you will be impressed. As well as being cute, I am very handsome. Jacques

Jacques' Bio at the Time of Adoption:

Domestic short/medium hair

DOB: 05/06/09

From their foster:

"Because their gray and white markings resemble map outlines, they have been named for famous explorers of lands, seas, skies and space.  See if you can figure out who their namesakes are.  Although at first glance they are difficult to tell apart, if you look carefully, you will notice distinct differences in the patterns of their faces and ears.  They are all friendly and playful"

When you visit these little explorers at the center, there should be printed information to help you identify them.

Jacques was originally listed with his siblings as one of  "Abigail's Explorers".

JD (Jack Daniels....oops, guess that'll be "Jenny D" :) is quite a little helper according to her first foster mom. She's also a very clean and playful houseguest. Foster mom called her and her already adopted brother, JB, little purr machines. JD misses her brother, but is busy making new kitten friends. She's using PAWS new fundraising bracelets for a favorite toy in her photo.

Jim

Jim's Bio at the Time of Adoption:

Male-neutered, Domestic Shorthair

DOB: 06/01/08

Jim is one of  "The Office" young cats.  They are named for characters from the popular NBC sitcom, "The Office", set in Scranton, Pennsylvania.  Centre County PAWS now has the first feline branch of Dunder Mifflin with its own Pam, Jim, Michael and Dwight.  All 4 cats were a little shy upon arrival but are now quite affectionate.   The 3 boys are closely bonded and good buds.   Jim is still a bit more reserved than his brothers, but still waters run deep and he's a very lovable fellow.  As fate would have it, his having the name of his tv character counterpart from the show is probably just right for him.  PAWS' Jim is a catch!

Karen

Karen

Karen's Bio at the Time of Adoption:

Female (spayed), Domestic Shorthair

DOB: 09/09/05

Karen's current photo was taken in her foster home with this caption:

"Hi, I'm Karen...Aren't I a pretty thing?! Here I am on my foster mom's bed, my favorite spot in her house. I am a very well-mannered, friendly, neat, quiet and no-fuss cat. I LOVE to be brushed and petted. I get along with the other 4 cats and tolerate the big dog, Rosie.

BUT-I don't like being in the cage at PAWS ( which occurs during weekend adoption hours). I get very scared and frustrated when I'm in this cage. So, if I get nasty to you, please don't hold that against me."

Like several of the PAWS cats, Karen behaves like a totally different cat when in a home setting or under more relaxed circumstances. Adoption hours at PAWS are not the best times to meet these cats, but it is, unfortunately, the time that you will first do just that--meet them. Please look at beautiful Karen and other scared and nervous PAWS cats with an open heart and open mind.

Lemon and Lime's Bio at the Time of Adoption:

Females, Domestic Shorthair

DOB: 10/01/08

Lemon

Lime - spayed

This two gals are much sweeter than their citrus flavored names. They seem curious and playful, but not in an overly boisterous kind of way.

Lemon's and Lime's foster has this to say about them:

"They say you can't judge a book by its cover, but with these two kitties, what you see is what you get. Cute? Without a doubt! Cuddly? Of course! Playful? Definitely! I'd say Lemon (smaller, off-center white blaze on nose) is the snugglier of the two and Lime (larger, centered blaze on nose) is the more rambunctious, but truly you couldn't ask for two nicer kittens. And while the two together make a lovely matched set (and for a very lively household), if you are only in the market for one cat, they are both very confident and independent young ladies in their own right and I don't think separating them would cause any undue distress. They're fine with young kids, other cats, and dogs (though they prefer to give the latter a wide berth)."

Linny and Rodney's Bio at the Time of Adoption:

Domestic Shorthair

DOB: 09/19/09

Upper photo: Linny-female

Lower photo: Rodney-male

Linny and Rodney were found outside during our first cold spell of the fall. They were so young that their ears were not even standing tall. That is why they are named after guinea pigs!! Linny usually has a very concerned look on her little face, but she’s very loving and sweet. Rodney is full of energy but also is very loving and sweet.

From the littlest PAWS ‘kids’: “Stop in and see us. Do you know who we were named for? They can tell you at the Adoption Center!”

“We are very good at running and jumping now. We live with those choo choo trains (the train kittens) and we even try to knock them off their tracks!! We're eating dry kitten food and love our water. We have great fun playing with the other cats in our foster home. We're having a little trouble with that thing they call a litter box though. We're a bit lazy and do not always cover our business. :( Our friends, the train kittens, help us out!! We hope to get better at this as we get a little bigger. Please open your hearts and homes to us this holiday season.”

Loudon

Loudon

Loudon's Bio at the Time of Adoption:

Male, Domestic Shorthair

DOB: 07/18/08

Loudon is one of the original 8 kittens named after motor speedways. We've fondly referred to them as the "Raceway Kittens". This handsome lad still needs to race off into his forever home. More photos can be seen by clicking for larger image. Here's the latest on this youngster:

Loudon has been living with his brothers in a foster home. He is the smallest of his litter and the most gentle. His foster parents say he’s very playful, tussling with his brother or chasing after a cat toy. He also loves to be held and cuddled, purring all the while. A lap is his favorite place to be.

Loudon’s foster home has two adult, male cats. If only they’d be more friendly toward him, Loudon would surely enjoy their company.

Loudon has beautiful white and light orange tabby coloring, and his coat is so, so soft. Simply put, Loudon is a sweetie and would make a wonderful addition to a forever home.

HOORAY! I'm going home with my brother, Talladega! This makes us both SO happy.

Ludwig is deaf, so his adopter will have to adjust to getting his attention and communicating with him in ways other than verbally.

Macadam

Macadam

Macadam's Bio at the Time of Adoption:

Male-neutered, Domestic Shorthair

DOB: 04/01/08

Foster mom's report in February 2009:

“Macadam is a dear sweet young lad who just wants to be held, petted and most of all, he wants to be loved. He has a good disposition and a good healthy curiosity. He loves to play with catnip and chase little balls. Won't you let Macadam be your forever friend?”

Macadam came to PAWS with injuries sustained from being hit by a car. He has twice tested positive for feline leukemia. This means that Macadam will need an indoor only home just as Lacey and Sheba do to protect his own health as well as to prevent the spread of the virus to other neighborhood cats. He would not be permitted to go into a home with FeLV negative cats. FeLV cannot be transmitted to humans or dogs, only to other cats. Good nutrition and semi-annual wellness exams will be important for Macadam, and at the first sign that he may not be feeling well, a trip to the vet is advised. Because FeLV may weaken Macadam's immune system over time, prevention and early treatment of any illness will give him a far greater chance of staying well.

Maid Marian

Maid Marian

Maid Marian's Bio at the Time of Adoption:

Female-spayed, Domestic Shorthair

DOB: 08/31/07

Tall, slender, lithe and pretty, young Maid Marian has managed to keep her youthful figure despite mothering six sweet kittens (the “Candy kids” we called them….with names like Hershey, Reeses, Snickers, etc.). Her kittens have all been adopted for quite some time now. Maid Marian would love to go home too. For now she has found a friend in fellow PAWS cat Dallas, also available for adoption.

Her previous foster mom has this to say about her:

“Maid Marian is such a great cat! She is very social and loves everyone (even strangers) as soon as she meets them. She stays in whatever room I’m in and follows me around the house. She is very playful, full of energy and loves her little mouse toys. When I’m watching TV or reading, she enjoys sitting on my lap and taking a nap. But her favorite thing is to sit and watch what’s going on outside the window.

Marian’s bathroom habits are impeccable, no accidents. She does love to explore, so I don’t leave food on the counter because she can jump surprisingly high. I never have had a cat before and I was surprised how easy it is to take care of her and how sweet of a cat she is. I can’t wait for her to find a loving home but I will definitely miss her!”

Our little Mariel is top notch. She's sweet and playful. If Olympic Gold Medals were given to kittens, she'd have one. She's named for Olympic fencer Mariel Zagunis who won the first gold medal awarded to the USA in this summer's events.

We've had Mariel since the days of the Summer Olympics when she was a gangly little tot. As you can see in her new photo, she's a beautiful slightly older kitten now, but still has lots of kitten days ahead for her adopter to enjoy. She's a dear little girl with her gray tabby and white markings with some slight tinges of buff to add even more character to her lovely coat.

McFlurry

McFlurry

McFlurry's Bio at the Time of Adoption:

Female-spayed, Domestic Shorthair

Age: ~3 years

This petite tabby had her first experience at the center during adoption hours with the beginning of the new year. She seems sweet and like she's longing for affection.

Here is some of foster mom's early 2009 report on McFlurry:

"When we first brought McFlurry home a few weeks ago, she was very scared and hid under the bed for days. I think she had a rough previous life, she (seemingly a kitten herself) and her own young kitten entered PAWS together under stressful conditions.

In the last 2 weeks, McFlurry has flourished. She no longer hides, she sleeps on tops of the beds and will even sleep nestled near a warm body. She will even sleep on your lap if you put her there. She is just starting to play with a string or stuffed mouse. I think I have even got a purr out of her a couple of times. When you pick her up she will meow which almost sounds like a growl, but I think that is just her voice. She has never scratched or lashed out."

McFlurry does well in her foster home with the older children there, but for now, is probably not an ideal choice to be around smaller and younger children. She did well with the neutered male cat in her foster home, but not the female. She has excellent litter box habits.

McFlurry is looking for an attentive adopter who will give her the understanding, time, and love to develop the trust she needs.

Meadow

Meadow

Meadow's Bio at the Time of Adoption:

Female-spayed, Domestic Shorthair

Age: ~ 2 years (December 2008)

December 2008

From foster mom:

It’s always hard to imagine having to give up your cat, but it’s especially hard to imagine giving up Meadow. I can honestly say that I have never met a nicer cat! We have twin 7-year old daughters and Meadow spent the first week with us sequestered in their room. I was worried that this would be stressful for her (my kids are what you might call “high energy”), but we wanted to ease her into the family pet dynamic (we have two cats and a dog) and the girls really wanted her in with them.

When Meadow hears the girls tearing up the stairs to their room, she actually moves towards the door to greet them rather than moving away or hiding (which is what our other cats do). She comes when she is called and purrs like a motorboat just with the pleasure of being near you. She seems to love heights, and is the only cat we have had who will climb up the girls’ bunk bed to sleep on the top bunk (which my top-bunk daughter LOVES!) and has made a nest for herself on the top shelf of their closet which is adjacent to the bunk bed.

After the holidays I should be able to tell you how she gets along with the other cats and the dog, but she seems so easy-going it is hard for me to imagine that she wouldn’t adapt to whatever situation she finds herself in so long as there is someone to love her.

Miles

Miles' Bio at the Time of Adoption:

Male-neutered, Domestic Shorthair

DOB: 06/16/08

Having grown into a sleek, shiny-coated, chow hound of a teenager (aren’t they all?), Miles likes just about everyone and other animals too….but most of all, he loves FOOD and his buddy “Fun”! (See Fun Unleashed's listing below).

Just sit back and prepare to be entertained – talk about action!

They are great with all of the other cats in the house – I’m not sure how they would be with dogs…..even though Fun seems to think he IS one! They have great litter box habits and are very clean kitties. So double your pleasure – adopt them both!

YAY! I'm goin' home with my brother Fun (Unleashed)! -- Miles

Minou's Bio at the Time of Adoption:

DOB: ~12/01/06

This in from Minou's holiday foster family:

Minou is a big, handsome, affectionate guy. He has very short, shiny black fur with just a couple of white hairs and large amber eyes. Minou came to his foster home right before the holidays, having been brought in from outside. He's very thankful to be safely indoors, and he lets us know by finding us whenever we are, sitting still and rubbing against us and sleeping on us. He does somewhat better with our older children since he's still a little jumpy with quick movements and loud noises, but he's starting to relax. Minou has a quiet purr and doesn't make very much noise. He got along right away with our cats, but is pretty self-sufficient. He likes to play with furry mouse toys and roll on his back. Pretty good for a guy who had been living by himself outside!

Monkey's Bio at the Time of Adoption:

Female-spayed, Domestic Shorthair

DOB: 09/01/08

Meet a very young and beautiful momcat, "Monkey". Mama Monkey gave birth to her four little monkeys when she was little more than 6 months old! She is still a little scared at the center, but with time and attention she'll get in the swing of things we suspect. Right now she's a pretty lonely gal. One of her kids went missing and hasn't been found, two have been adopted and Rhesus is now living at Wiscoy. Since Monkey missed out on most of her own kittenhood, she enjoyed having the kids around to play with. She'd really like to reclaim some of her lost youth now that she'll be "with kid" no more. A home with another youngster would be perfect for her.

"Noel was obviously named for the Christmas holiday. She came to PAWS just a few days before that special day. We think she's pretty special too. Found at a hunting camp, Noel is a survivor and very appreciative of her second chance! Noel is very friendly and loves to be with her person. She will chirp to her person just so you know she's near--as if to say 'I'm here, give me some attention'! Sometimes when I'm sitting with her, she will jump up onto my back and make her way to my shoulder to perch. Oreo

Oreo's Bio at the Time of Adoption:

Female-spayed, Domestic Shorthair

~DOB: 10/11/04

Sometimes life takes unexpected twists and turns, and beautiful Oreo, through no fault of her own, finds herself back at PAWS. She originally came to us over a year ago, having been rescued along with her 5 kittens from a life outdoors. She was underweight and very frightened. But her kittens were healthy, which was a testament to Oreo being a devoted and protective mom. Oreo’s kittens all found wonderful homes, and now Oreo is hoping to find hers….for the second and final time.

Oreo currently is living in a foster home and has definitely progressed since her first stay with us. She is healthy now, but she’s still shy and can be a bit elusive. She longs to be petted and will seek out her person once she knows everything is safe. She is very affectionate and loves to rub and nudge with her head--purring all the while. Oreo would do best in a low-keyed home. She is okay with other cats, and now accepts the dog too!!

Oreo is a beautiful cat with unique markings. If you look closely at the little round black circles surrounded by white on both of her sides, you will see immediately how she got her name! Oreo is just waiting for that special person who understands her and will give her the love and patience she really wants and needs.

Palla is a beautiful, buff-colored cat with a soft lush coat. She lived outside on her own for at least a year, during which time a PAWS volunteer fed her and tried unsuccessfully to befriend her. The weather started getting colder and Palla evidently realized what she was in for -- another long winter. One day in late Fall, totally out of the blue, Palla's would-be friend put her food bowl down and Palla came straight to him, bumping and rubbing, looking up at him saying "I'm ready....please take me in." He opened the door to his enclosed porch and Palla marched right in....didn't give it a second thought.

Palla stayed with foster dad until after the holidays, learning what getting and giving affection was all about. She wasn't anxious to meet his other cats, however, so he brought her to the Center, thinking a better next step would be for her to become comfortable with other people....cats could come later.

Palla is still uncertain about everything that has happened to her within a few short months. But she's come a long way and has been "promoted" from a single room at the Center to a room housing two other cats. She doesn't appear to interact with them much, preferring to stow away in one of the cat condos during the day. But when visitors come and she's in her enclosure, she loves to be petted and comes out seeking affection.

Palla is a lovely, lovely cat. In a quiet home, and with a little time to adjust, she is sure to blossom into a wonderful companion.

Patrick is a nice, friendly cat. He's very fond of Mikey who came with him to PAWS. They'd make a great pair of adoptees since they are quite attached to one another. Patrick eats a special food. Although he and Mikey look very serious in their photos, they are far from it.

HOORAY! Mikey's mom came back for me!!

Pax

Pax

Pax's Bio at the Time of Adoption:

Female-spayed, Domestic Medium Hair

DOB: 11/01/06

Pax is as loving as she is beautiful. After raising a litter of kittens, she landed out in the world as a homeless cat. She so deserves the love and security of a home to call hers forever.

From Pax's foster:

Pax is the perfect cat. We can't believe why she is here, looking for a forever home! She adjusted easily to her foster home and gets along well with other cats. Mostly, she doesn't bother with them and is very tolerant. She keeps to herself much of the time but is loving, quiet and accepting of everyone. Her litter box habits are very tidy. Pax loves to go into the garage to explore, and would love a house with a closed-in porch or balcony. She prefers her Purina One dry food over moist food and she loves her treats! She would do well in just about any household.

December update:

We have had Pax for several weeks now and she is much more sociable, wants to be where her people are, and often has loving moments when she climbs on us and kneads our laps. She is very affectionate and loves to be held and carried around.

Philadelphia Story Kittens

Philadelphia Story Kittens' Bio at the Time of Adoption:

Cleopatra's little beauties! They are all named for characters in "The Philadelphia Story". These little ones were born in October 2008.

Here's how their foster mom describes them:

"The Philadelphia Story kittens all have very individual personalities. Tracy and George are good buddies and like to do things together. Both are friendly and enjoy cuddling. Although George is going through a "shy with strangers" phase right now, he is quick to purr once he gets to know you. Tracy is a little quieter. Dexter is the most active and outgoing. He is very curious and always wants to know what you are doing. Seth is the most independent. He is the last to come over to see what's going on, but he is not particularly shy and responds to pats with a spontaneous purr. He loves to bat at dangled strings. Macaulay is a little character. He has the most expressive face and rapidly shifting moods. He is sometimes cuddly, sometimes playful, sometimes aloof, and sometimes all of the above all in the same minute."

Princess' Bio at the Time of Adoption:

Female-spayed, Domestic shorthair

DOB: 05/10/08

Here I am all crouched and ready to leap into my very own home. I've been waiting a long time to find my royal castle which for me is a forever home filled with love. My 3 siblings, Bandit, Foxie and Paint, with whom I was previously listed here are all long gone. I, a princess, am still here. Isn't anyone out there looking for Princess to call their own?

Here's what my foster has to say about me:

"Princess is a wonderful grey tabby with beautiful grey markings. She can be shy at times, but once she's found her comfort level, she's all yours. She has a laid-back personality and just enjoys hanging out with her person. Princess is the last of her litter mates and is eager to find her forever people. She currently lives with other cats, and gets along with all of them. Princess IS a Princess and we know from experience she will treat her people like royalty!"

Puma

Puma

Puma's Bio at the Time of Adoption:

Male-neutered, Domestic Shorthair

DOB: 04/18/09

For now, Puma, the very big PAWS cat, is like an elusive Puma in the wild. He's often not to be seen preferring instead to be hiding in his bed, under his bed, or behind his bed on adoption days. For now he's more like a sweet and gentle scaredy cat than a big brave Puma. Somehow that makes him all the more endearing. He's a great big gentle giant, the shyer and larger of the two brothers, Panther and Puma who came to PAWS together.

ADOPTED with brother Panther 10/11/09

Females-spayed, Domestic Shorthair

DOB: 04/20/08

Squash, lighter calico markings, is on the left.

Pumpkin, with her darker calico pattern, is on the right.

Foster Mom's note from the girls, January 2009:
Hi –

We’re Pumpkin and Squash. Our foster mom and dad say we’re just as sweet as pie!

We were found outside as kittens and were pretty wild, but we’re really progressing in being socialized. When we’re here at PAWS we’re kind of scared, but don’t let that fool you. We love affection and petting. One of us (Pumpkin) purrs loudly to show her pleasure, while the other (Squash) purrs, but very softly. I (Pumpkin) love to have my belly rubbed, and we both like to sit on our fosters’ laps. Squash will stay for a long time, but I stay just a short time before needing to get down, explore and play.

Speaking of playing, we love to play! We especially like wand toys and little mice. I (Pumpkin) like to play with stuffed mice and then drop them into my water bowl. I never hide, but my sister will sometimes hide under a rug or a towel. But she likes you to find her and pet her. I'm addicted to catnip. :)

We have our very own sisal rope scratching post and we just love it. We compete to see who can scratch it the hardest! So far, we’re both winning. Yeah!! We never, ever, scratch anything but our scratching post.

We really like our foster mom and dad and their house, but what we want more than anything in the world is to have our very own mom and/or dad find us and take us to our forever home!!!

-- Hugs and Love from Pumpkin and Squash

Scout

Scout's Bio at the Time of Adoption:

Female-spayed, Domestic Shorthair

DOB: 01/01/08

Hi – My name is “Scout”. The PAWS volunteers tell me I’m just as sweet as the four “Girl Scout Cookies” I gave birth to in May. The Cookies are shown just below me on this page….please take a look at them….aren’t they beautiful? Tagalong, you will note, is a "Boy Scout Cookie". :)

Now….as you’ve read above, I’m currently living in residence at Wiscoy where you can see me 7 days a week whenever the store is open. My Cookie kids, however, stay in a foster home during the week but may be seen at the Adoption Center on the weekends. Even though you’ll have to visit us separately, you might seriously think about adopting one of them AND me. (You’ll get a reduced adoption rate during the month of August if you do)! I love all of them….after all, they’re my kids….so I’d be happy going home with any one of them. I promise I’ll continue the nurturing process and will help teach my little one good kitten manners, so I might save you some valuable time.

Love –

Scout

Seis

Seis' Bio at the Time of Adoption:

Female (spayed), Domestic Shorthair

DOB: 04/01/07

Seis is one of the two sisters with bigger than usual paws-see explanation below. She and sister, Siete are both friendly and gentle girls. During the week they enjoy their free time out and about in the cattery and love it when the volunteers play with them. They especially like the "chirping" wand type toy with a fabric strip attached. They find days when the center is open and they have to be confined to be rather boring. As a result they tend to sleep and don't really sell themselves to potential adopters. They are truly neat little cats though!

Seis (Spanish for six) and Siete (Spanish for seven) are polydactyl cats, meaning they have more than the usual number of toes on some of their paws. As you might guess, Seis has six and Siete has seven. Please ask a volunteer to identify these lovely ladies for you at the center.

Shila

Shila's Bio at the Time of Adoption:

Female (spayed), Domestic Shorthair

DOB: 04/20/08

Shila is a pretty black and white tuxedo as you can see. She still is a bit shy. But like her sisters, Pumpkin and Squash, Shila has a wonderful future in store. Upon arrival at PAWS, Shila went directly into a foster home apart from her sisters. Following is what foster mom has to report:

December 24, 2008

“Shila is becoming a sweet, affectionate and playful kitty. She came to our home very timid and in need of quiet time and space alone. Little by little, we spent time with her, spoke quietly but warmly to her, and she began coming out into the room (from where she hid under the bed) to talk to us and rub against us. Over the holidays, we added Caviar to our foster family. Shila and Caviar liked one another immediately and provide good company for one another. As we’d reported for Caviar, the two of them love their toys and enjoy romping around the room. Although still tending to hide when we first come into the room, little by little they’re exploring more and becoming more adventurous. Shila, like Caviar, seems to get along fine with our cats, though we still keep them separate when we’re not there to supervise.

“Together or separate, Shila and Caviar will make truly wonderful pets. They both love people and attention and are fun to watch as they chase their toys.”

Shiloh's Bio at the Time of Adoption:

A Lonely Hearts Club Cat

Female (spayed), Domestic Shorthair

D.O.B. ~7/1/04

If you’ve been following my story, you know that my buddy, Calvin, was adopted back in June and I had a terrible time getting over it. I really adored that guy. Without him, I’d never have learned to deal with this nerve-wracking place….or how to act with all the humans who come here. You may recall that I was a castaway, living behind the old PAWS adoption center with Dahlia and Rocky….who were a pair and not really interested in me. It’s been a long, slow trip back to civilization, but I’m getting’ there!

After Calvin left, the PAWS people kept putting girls in the room with me. GIRLS for cryin’ out loud….when I was longing for my guy! There’s this one girl named “Teal” who arrived right before Calvin left. I didn’t like her much at first -- she’s white, slim, beautiful, sure of herself -- not “full-figured” and a little goofy like me. I was so afraid she’d steal Calvin’s heart. But we’ve become friends now – we sleep in the cat tree together and curl up in each other's beds. She still watches with an air of superiority as I roll around the floor chasing little mice, but that’s okay. As you’ll read in Teal’s write-up, we do occasionally have “discussions” about who owns the room, but overall we get along well. :)

When it was time for holiday break at PAWS, they told me I’d be going to the foster home where I stayed when I first came out of the cornfield. All I could remember was a really nice man and a herd of cats….every age, size, color and personality of cat imaginable. I guess I’d done pretty well there….considering. I was SO scared when I was put in that little thing called a “carrier”, but when I got to the house…..realize, this is almost one year later….it was like I’d never left! Here’s what foster dad says about my visit:

“Shiloh really does blossom at home…she comes alive and thoroughly enjoys having the run of the house. She had an enclosure she could retreat to if things got to be too much, but she rarely took refuge. She was fine with the other cats so long as they didn’t get too close. Shiloh wanted very much to get up on my lap….every night she sat at the base of my lazyboy, put her paws on the footrest, and considered it. The look in her eye was unmistakable! Give her a month, let HER make that decision and I guarantee, you’ll have a lap cat! " --Jack

'Isn’t anyone trying to find me? Won’t somebody come take me home?....I'm looking for a place. I'm searching for a face.....I don’t know who you are, but I’m with you.' Yes, it might take a month for me to feel comfortable….but then….we could have a wonderful life together!

(Song lyric lines from “I’m With You” credit to Avril Lavigne)

Spike is still a scared boy at times, but he is so willing and ready to be affectionate when he's not intimidated by his surroundings. He's making giant strides towards being comfortable with gentle and loving people and life in general.

June 16, 2009

An early report from Spike’s new foster family:

“We have been having great fun with Spike. He is quite loving and beautiful. He is still a bit afraid but is becoming quicker to warm up. He has met several of my daughter’s friends and has done well with all of them (the slow movers and the quick ones too)! He doesn’t seem to be too concerned with Bibi, but curiosity is really getting to her. We have not had them meet face to face, but smells have been exchanged and a few spits under doorways. My hope is that tomorrow and the rest of the week, we will have them spend some time around each other. Spike is eating and drinking fine – no problems.”

DOB: 06/09/08

Sprite is the only remaining kitten from The Soda Pop Gang. He's not only got lots of fizzy fun in him, he's got a purr that reflects his great personality and temperament.

Here's the latest from Sprite's foster:

"Sprite is living with four cats and a large dog in his foster home. Sprite enjoys the company of the other cats and gets lonely by himself. He is a very friendly cat and wants to know his person is around. He will frequently let out a few little meows just to hear you call his name so he knows you're close by. Sprite purrs 24/7--he's just a non-stop purr-box! He is a handsome, sleek kitty with companionship and lots of love to offer to his person. He would make a great addition to your home and would be a great friend to your existing felines."

Male, Domestic Shorthair

Stanley is a very special little survivor and will need a loving indoor home.

Stanley is a special case because when he was found, his temperature was in the low 90s. A veterinarian was able to work with him and he survived. As a result, he might not process things mentally as quickly as some cats and needs an indoor only home because he could get lost and not find his way home. Otherwise, he acts like a normal cat and would love to live a happy life with an understanding and attentive adopter.

Lower row left to right: Saunter (Male) and Amble (Female-spayed)

Here's what foster mom has to say about her little charges:

"Although at this age they might be more aptly called Frolic, Tumble, Gambol and Frisk, these sweet and gentle kittens will likely grow into their laid-back names. All are friendly, loving and easy-going. Mosey (all black with a little white under her chin) is the most outgoing. She positively demands attention, running up with a mew and a purr whenever someone enters the room. Sashay (black with a white heart-shaped mark on her chest) is the most independent. If everyone else is playing with toys, she wants a pat. If everyone else is being patted, she's off playing with a toy. Saunter (gray with a small white bib) has a lot of style. He could almost have been named Swagger. He knows he's the big brother of the family. Amble (all gray) is the gentlest. She is full of love, and it overflows in her purr. She reportedly gets along well with other animals too. She has absolutely beautiful eyes and a lovely torbie with white coat.

Talladega

Talladega

Talladega's Bio at the Time of Adoption:

Male, Domestic Shorthair

DOB: 07/18/08

Talladega is another of the 8 raceway-named kittens. He is friendly, energetic, and playful and would just love to race into your arms and home.

Here's an update from foster mom:

Talladega (Tally) is a beautiful, soft, white kitty with a grey tiger tail and tiger markings on his head. His fur is downy soft. He is very playful and curious about everything, running and jumping from one end of his foster home to the other. He especially loves a spiral kitty toy and a wooden Christmas decoration—anything that moves around fast. The Christmas decoration makes a lot of noise on the wood floors, and he likes that.

Tally's big enough now that he gets into almost everything, so disciplining with a firm “no” and removal with distractions are sometimes necessary. Training to a scratching post is on-going. Like any pet (or child), he needs to learn his limitations.

When he’s not playing with his brothers or sleeping, Tally often follows his foster mom around. He wants to be picked up or sit in a lap. He’s very snuggly and wants to explore everything about you—your earrings, the zipper on your jacket, your nose, your glasses, even your hair! He purrs immediately when picked up.

His litter habits are impeccable....no accidents at all. He likes his Purina One dry kitty food, especially if it’s sprinkled with a little water.

He’s interested in the two adult cats in the house and seems to want to play, but unfortunately they’re too stodgy. He doesn’t know about dogs yet. Tally and his brothers have their own sleeping quarters, which they run to happily, but he would probably be sleeping on his fosters’ bed if given the chance.

This kitty is very, very loving and special, with a playful personality and gentle nature.

Loudon and me together forever! Wow --we never thought this would happen, but....off we go!

Tanqueray

Tanqueray's Bio at the Time of Adoption:

Male-neutered, Domestic shorthair

DOB: 08/24/08

Here's Tanqueray having great fun in his foster home. He was orignally one of the tiny Cocktail Kittens, named for party drinks. He's become a handsome young fellow.

Foster report on this little guy:

"The Alpha Male-- Tanqueray would make someone a wonderful companion. He is very affectionate and loves to get affection himself. When he isn't getting any, he will let you know. He is the biggest one of the group and lets everyone know. He has the loudest purr and a very distinct meow that you would be able to pick out of a crowd of kitties. Tanqueray loves to lie on your lap at the end of the day and just purr as if to say "relax, your day is over"!!! Like all of his sisters, he absolutely loves to play with those little hairy mice. It is a treat to watch him throw them around and play with them. Tanqueray has no issues with the litter box and he has been around kids of all ages. I think he would be fine with dogs."

Teal

Teal

Teal's Bio at the Time of Adoption:

Female (spayed), Domestic Shorthair

DOB: 06/29/05

Front Declawed

Teal is a friendly and all around lovely cat, both in temperament and physical beauty. Although she was a bit nervous at the Adoption Center at first, she grew more comfortable over time and has come to genuinely enjoy getting affection from the volunteers. She has claimed one of the sunrooms as her own and looks forward to touring the hallway while the volunteers clean "her" room. She now actively seeks out attention and gets along well with her roomie, Shiloh....although occasionally they have a little "discussion" as to who owns the room!

Teal is really anxious to find her own home though...it's definitely time! We've been told that she does not like dogs, so she's looking for a dog-free, indoor-only home....indoor-only because she's front-declawed.

When you meet Teal, you'll observe one little habit that you need to know about. When she gets excited, she puts her tail straight up in the air, shakes it and prances...exactly like a cat getting ready to spray! Teal does NOT spray....at least we never have seen her spray nor have we found any evidence whatsoever that she has. So not to worry. It's all posturing....just a nervous habit which may go away once she's permanently settled in a quiet, comfortable home.

Domestic Shorthairs

Maeve, F(s), orange - DOB: 04/01/08

Torie, M, buff-colored, and Mac, M, orange - ~DOB 11/15/08

Left to right: Torie, Mac, Maeve

A loving and pretty trio, part of a group of 6 orangish cats and kittens who came to PAWS together! Maeve is now spayed (and has been adopted).

Torie
Torie is a small kitty. He can be shy at first, but it doesn’t take him long to come out of his shell. He is very sweet and loves to be petted, but is attentive to what is going on around him. His favorite toy is a fishing rod with several small toys and a fur mouse attached.

Mac
Mac is a very, affectionate “people cat”. He is used to dogs and other cats and has a laid-back temperament. He even prefers the company of people over a dish of food! He loves to be petted and will plop right down next to his person and roll over to be loved and brushed. His favorite toy is a fluffy, fabric ball that he loves to chase and carry in his mouth.

Torie and Mac are litter trained and eat Purina ONE Kitten food. They share a foster home with several cats, two toy poodles and an Australian Cattle dog. Mac is even comfortable with occasional episodes of chaos! Could Torie and/or Mac be the kitty(s) for you??!

Tracy

Tracy's Bio at the Time of Adoption:

One of the Philadelphia Story kittens

Philadelphia Story Kittens's bio at the time of adoption: Cleopatra's little beauties!

Male, Domestic Shorthair

DOB: 10/24/08

This cute and active little orange tabby really is turbo-charged. He just loves to play, even if he has to play all by himself.

Turbo is a very lucky kitten. Two recent PAWS dog adopters found him trying his best to keep warm on a bitter cold January day. Where was he, you might wonder? Curled up on the engine block of a car in the Department of Motor Vehicles parking lot! Yikes! Turbo is VERY grateful to these good people for getting him safely to PAWS.

Foster mom has this to say about Twain:

"Twain is the biggest of his siblings. He's got a beautiful black coat with a white belly and tiny white bib, and gorgeous gold/green eyes. Twain was the first of the siblings to become affectionate with me. he wants to be up on my chest and right in my face. He plays with everything on me--earrings, buttons, ear-lobes--and he loves to lick my face, although I often discourage that because his little tongue is very very rough! He IS a lap cat!"

Wylie

Wylie

Wylie's Bio at the Time of Adoption:

A Lonely Hearts Club Cat

Male (neutered), Domestic Shorthair

YOB: 2004

July 10, 2007

From Wylie's foster mom:
This handsome tuxedo is quite an armful, but a very lovable armful and a classic guy. Wylie is a very “comfortable” cat, not too active and not too stodgy. He loves companionship. He really watches the people around him and has a beautiful, clear green gaze from his charming little triangular face. He’s cuddly and likes to be near and touching his humans, although he isn’t what I’d call clingy either. Since he’s kind of quiet, I’d hate for someone not to notice him in the crowd, because he’s a really special kind of fellow. I think he’d easily be able to adapt to other cats in a household.
Because of a previous infection, Wylie has a higher risk of developing urinary tract infections than the average cat. So his future companion will need to keep watch for any signs that he’s retaining urine (which could cause an obstruction), and feed him a prescription diet to prevent that. His current diet seems to suit him well and he likes both dry and canned food, with a slight preference for canned.
Update - January 2008
Like so many cats who spend the week in foster homes, Wylie really dislikes coming to the Center and wonders why in the world he has to go through this routine every weekend. As a result, he can sometimes become a bit "snarfy" with people who are interested in him. To avoid gettin' on Wylie's nerves, foster mom advises prospective adopters not to hold him for too long -- a little is okay, but even at home, he has his limits. Wylie also doesn't like to have his fur ruffled for too long at a time. He's one of these fellows who likes attention and often seeks it out, but he'll let you know...with a swat...when he's had enough.
I found her! At last, at last.....the very person I've been looking for all this time! Oh boy, was this ever worth the wait....I'm flyin SO HIGH! -- Wylie
